This presentation looks at these concerns from a Systems of systems viewpoint and offers some insights and methods to consider in addressing these emerging information architectures.

¨   April  20, 2010  -  Dick Blazey –  What it REALLY takes to get a patent:

“How  getting a patent is like being the defendant in a trial”

In this talk I’m going to cover materials that are not often dealt with in discussions of  applying for a patent.   That step  ,and all the work that entails, is  only the first step in a long process.  What I’m going go focus on is what happens 1.5 or more years AFTER your patent application is filed,  including a little understood step  called  Patent Prosecution.  It is in Patent Prosecution (which begins when your receive an “Office Action”) where you find out how good a job you and your attorney did in preparing the application and also encounter the luck of the draw as you find out the prejudices and peculiarities of the person who decides if you will get that patent,  The Patent Examiner.   I liken patent prosecution to a trial.  While you are not in a courtroom, all the players are there.  You are the defendant, your attorney is the defense and the examiner fills the roles  prosecutor , judge and jury.   Patent Prosecution is often the most frustrating , expensive and difficult for the inventors and their attorneys.  I have 35 patents and none of them escaped this process.  Learn what is likely to happen to your patent in prosecution  and what you may need to do to win.

¨   May 18, 2010  – Bob Lewis – Finding Ways to Improve Business Performance
